Static websites are dead and have been for sometime now. There are very few businesses that wouldn’t benefit more from having a blog based interactive site.
Chris Brogan wrote an article recently, Magazine Thinking, that describes using the magazine business model as a good way to think about current and future business projects.
The basic formula is:
Content – Community – Marketplace
For most businesses online, this is a fantastic way to think about your website. This is the format that I use for my clients. I suggest that they think of their website as their own online interactive magazine that they continue to publish and develop.
Content
Using your blog and pages (mostly blog) you can continually provide new content that is of value to your readers, clients, customers.
Community
Readers can be drawn in and gather around your content. This is your Community. Community means involvement. Enable their ability to add comments and develop the conversation further.
Marketplace
By providing this valuable, usable content to your community you establish trust and a sense of authority so that your community is more likely to purchase your products or services, or trust the advertising on your site.
Do You Have Your Own Online Magazine?
Is your website using this model? Can you see how it would benefit you? I think it definitely would, but what do you think?
