Do you hate marketing? I’ve never enjoyed marketing. In my experience the majority of it was about either lying or overselling. Because of recent trends I now LOVE marketing.
Marketing today is not the same as it has been for the past 50 years, and the use of social media to get the word out about your product is profoundly effective – if done correctly.
The Truth Shall Set You Free (and increase your sales)
Connection and Transparency is the key. The more honest you are, the more human you are in your communication with your customers, the better chance you have at making a successful connection or sale.
The internet has produced so many ways to share information that it’s really almost impossible to hide anything. If you’re not being truthful about what you’re selling it will eventually come out.
Real = Power
Some people are great at spin and hype, but most people communicate more effectively when they’re telling the truth and being honest. Being genuine and authentic is the most persuasive method of communication out there.
Notice how much less empowered you feel when you’re not being honest. Notice how empowered you feel when you’re telling the truth. What seems more effective to you? How would you rather spend the hours in your day?
Will Your Product Help Me?
People are looking for solutions. Hype doesn’t have the same impact it once had. What’s more effective is connecting with a customer and sharing, on a human level, why you’ve developed your product or service, and why it will help their situation.
Social Media Gives You Voice
How does Social Media help with all of this? Sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn give you platforms for you to develop these types of conversations with your audience, peers and colleagues.
Even if they don’t directly engage, people can look in on these ongoing conversations and determine for themselves the value of the message you’re delivering. Are you just selling, or are you discussing real solutions.
What Do You Think?
Do you find this to be true? How has social media marketing worked for you? Let me know!
