Title tags are the string of words you see across the top of your browser when you go to a web page. While the keyword meta tag is pretty much useless these days, TITLE tags are still quite useful and one of the best things you can use to help your page’s SEO (search engine optimization)
Using WordPress
If you are using WordPress it’s very easy to edit the title tags of each of your pages and blog posts. If you’re one of my clients using WordPress, I’ve set you up with StudioPress Genesis Theme Framework (affiliate link). That framework gives you the ability to create a custom title tag for each page or blog post.
Creating the Custom Title Tag with Genesis
Normally WordPress will just create a title tag from the page or blog title. But using Genesis (affiliate link), just scroll down in the editing page to the area where you see “Genesis SEO Options and Settings.” Where it says “Custom Document Title” fill in good keywords to help that page or blog post with the search engines. That way you can have nice, readable titles for your pages and posts, but you can create more keyword rich title tags by using this method.
All In One SEO Pack Plugin
If you’re using WordPress, but not Genesis (affiliate link) (why not?) you can still do this by installing the “All In One SEO Pack” plugin and do similar steps that I described above.
This is just one thing you can do on your own that will really help a lot with your site’s SEO. What are some of the things you use to help? I’d love to hear what they are, or any other thoughts or questions you have on the subject. Use the comments section below.
