A lot of people on-the-go have abandoned the thought of carrying a laptop computer with them anymore. The seem big, heavy, awkward and overkill when compared to something like an iPad or even your smart phone.
That’s fine for browsing, emailing and other typical web activity, but what about actually being able to manage your website from your mobile device?
WordPress makes it easy to manage your website via your mobile device.
If you’ve got a WordPress website you’ve got a couple different options that allow you to easily manage your website from your iPad or smart phone. How cool is that?
I’ve been relying on computers for my businesses for years now and I never traveled without a laptop. However for the past year now, I’ve been leaving my MacBook Pro at home when I travel. I can now take care of whatever I need with my iPad or iPhone. Now these aren’t heavy duty production machines, but they make it very easy to manage 99% of what I need to do while on the road.
I can update my WordPress websites without having to carry around a laptop. I can add new posts, photos, make changes to pages, create new pages and more with the help of these little mobile tools.
Using a Mobile Browser to do Updates
Using Safari or Chrome makes it pretty easy to login to your admin area and manage it much the way you would do on your computer. Everything pretty much looks and functions the same. To me, this is the easiest way to manage my sites via mobile.
The one drawback: Using the WordPress uploader is not supported in mobile browsers. One way I work around this is I’ll use the mobile browser to do 99% of what I need to do, then I’ll use the app (see below) to upload photos.
Now my only experience is with Safari and Chrome. If anyone knows of a solution to this, please let me know. 🙂
WordPress App for Mobile!
There is a WordPress app for both iOS and Android systems. This is great!
When this app first arrived on the scene it only offered support for sites hosted on wordpress.com. But now it also allows you to manage your self-hosted WordPress sites. (by self-hosted I just mean any site NOT hosted on wordpress.com – might be on Hostgator, Bluehost, Godaddy, etc…)
You can get these apps here: WordPress for iOS | WordPress for Android
What this means…
It just means that you are now free to more easily manage your site from anywhere (anywhere you get signal ) 😉 That can be great when you’re traveling and still want to keep up with your blog. Or maybe you’re on the road but need to change a current offer you’re running on your site. No more need to have to lug your laptop around or ask to use someone else’s.
