Just Be Yourself
Some business owners who are new to blogging aren’t sure how to write. Here are some thoughts that commonly run through their minds as they finally accept the fact that they need to be blogging…
- Should I be uber-smooth?
- I’m sure I need to be perfect with every sentence I put down.
- I’m worried I’ll say the wrong thing!
Don’t Over Think, Be Authentic
Use your real voice/style.
Don’t try to be Mr. Cool. (unless that really just who you are!) For the past 50+ years advertisers have worked hard to make their message flawless and ultra-cool. These days that just comes off sounding phony. That will totally undermine any trust you’re trying to develop with your customers.
Talk to people like you would to a friend.
Act as though a good friend of yours is sitting across from you and asked you a question about something you really know a lot about. You would talk as someone who truly cares, someone who really wants to help.
Keep it real.
Don’t get too technical (unless that’s what appeals to your crowd). People will often try and come across like a know-it-all, using very technical jargon, big fancy words so they seem like Gods Gift to their industry. Now, you might truly be a blessing to someone who need’s to hear what you have to say, but just make sure you say it in a normal conversational way; in a way that they can use and actually understand. And in a way that doesn’t have them come away from the post thinking, “Wow, someone’s a little full of themselves today!”
Just Remember…
Just be natural; be yourself; be authentic; enjoy yourself. People are much more likely to read what you have to say and will be more likely to come back again.
What are your thoughts?
