I’ve been doing web design since the mid-90s (yeah, I’ve seen a few changes in trends 😉 ) so it’s nice when every once in a while something comes along that makes everything feel new and exciting again. Mobile Responsive Design is all the rage, and I have to say that it’s really put a new shine on web design for me lately.
Adding a ‘Click-to-Call’ Link to Your Mobile Site
My friend, Garrett Winslow showed me a mobile site a while back that prominently featured a large button that said, “Click to Call” (or something like that). When you tapped the button your phone makes the call. That’s an awesome feature. very helpful marketing tool and just another great reason to make sure your business’ site is using mobile responsive design.
It’s a good chance that if someone is looking up your site on their mobile phone, it’s because they want to get in touch with you. Why not make it as easy as just clicking on a button. That way they don’t have to look for the phone number on your site, memorize it, switch to the phone feature and type the numbers in. They can connect with you right away.
By using mobile responsive design, you can have this click-to-call feature only appear when your site is being viewed on a smartphone. It wouldn’t make sense to have it appear when viewing on a desktop or laptop computer, or even an iPad.Â
For Example: Screenshot of a site as seen on a desktop computer:
And now see the mobile version of this site as seen on an iPhone. Note the large “Click to Call Now!” button featured prominently on the homepage. Note that this only appears on the mobile version of the site. This will make it super easy for your customers to get in touch with you right away.Â
I love mobile responsive design!!! 🙂
