Entertaining or Solving a Problem?
I was reading a blog post on Chris Brogan’s site this morning and the post featured a video of Jim Kukral at last year’s Affiliate Summit. During the presentation, Jim stated that people come to the internet for two reasons.
1. Solutions to a Problem
2. Entertainment
(not necessarily in that order)
Which one do you provide? Do you solve problems? Do you entertain? Of course it’s nice, and certainly possible, for you can do both, but what is your online business’ primary role? Why is Google so successful? It’s an obvious problem solver.
Make It Obvious
Don’t make it a mystery. Make it obvious to your website’s visitors, your customers, what you will do for them.
Tell your customers that you know what their problem is, and tell them how you can solve it. Make it simple. Make it very easy for them to understand how you can help.
Refine Your Message
Put a lot of thought into this. Refine your message again and again until you get that concise clear statement that will let your customers know they came to the right place.
