When talking with my clients about ways they can improve the presence of their website, I promote blogging and social media. Many of my clients are very new to blogging and I often get the question, “What do I write about?”
As I’ve mentioned in previous posts….
- Write about what you know
- Don’t try to sell anything
- Use a personal approach
- Keep it short (you don’t have to write the “great novel” every time you sit down to write)
There are other things to think about, but those are probably some of my most touted points. I’d like to add a couple other things that would be helpful for you to consider when posting for your customers/clients/readers.
Inspire
People who are reading your blog are often looking to you for guidance and helpful information in your field. Take this opportunity to inspire them. Offer guidance and information that can help and encourage them. Everyone likes to be inspired!
Entertain
No matter what field you’re in, keeping your words entertaining will always help your message. Entertainment can take many forms, so you can think of how it will best come across to your readers. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to start your posts with “A Fireman and A Penguin walk into a bar….” Just keep things from being too dry.
Inspiring and entertaining your readers will help you in several ways..
- You’ll be more likely to retain your readership
- More likely to gain more readers
- Help to establish/maintain yours as a voice of authority in your field
All this helps your brand, your business, your customers and yourself! How cool is that!?
